The Art of Ping Pong set out to fuse vibrant art with functional design, creating ping pong tables that are joyful to look at and play on. Typography and AR were combined to bring their unique table designs to life.
The Brief
The founders of Art of Ping Pong asked us to collaborate on the design of 8 ping pong tables that would be installed across spaces within the new retail destination at Islington Square. The tables would be a key element in activating this new public realm, fusing unique design with sport to bring people together.
The Solution
Inspired by the theme of opposing states, the graphics we designed for each of the 8 tables captures the signature moves and dynamic nature of the sport of ping pong. To build and emphasise the sense of movement, we used Instagram filters to bring life to the typographic designs through animation and augmented reality.
The Client
It was an absolute pleasure working with the super talented team at Campbell Hay. We love their designs and the addition of the AR feature was a really clever and unexpected touch, giving our ArtTables a new life in the digital world!

Industry
Two of the 8 tables are permanently installed in the public realm at Islington Square, and, when not in use, 6 smaller ‘ArtTables’ are displayed in the gallery.
Using vibrant colours, bold designs and animated typography, the tables use AR to express the joy of ping pong as players watch the tables bounce, smash and block.
