Work Process About

Mimo’s founder, Jon Warren, wanted to build on the award-winning culinary brand he established to help others discover the best of San Sebastian's culinary scene by bringing the experience to London.

The Brief

Long-standing hospitality client Mimo approached us to work with them on the concept, name, and brand identity of their new open-air pintxos bar. As part of The Borough Market Kitchen, the new pinxtos bar serves fresh, seasonal and authentic pintxos made from Basque and British produce sourced directly from bustling Borough Market itself.

The Solution

Capturing the quality, vibrancy and conviviality of San Sebastian was our primary goal. We held a naming workshop which led us to ‘Batera’, a word that means ‘together’ in the Basque region’s local dialect, communicating the concept’s authenticity and connection to its origin. A playful approach to typography and tone of voice conveyed Batera’s energy.

The Client

Campbell Hay have been an important part of Batera’s journey from the very start. From our name to our brand identity and interior design, they have been a great support. Their original thinking and shared love for all things culinary have been essential in bringing Batera to life.

Batera

A playful typographic identity system is supported by a series of illustrations that mimic animated gestures and social interactions; a conversation over pintxos or dishes sliding across a bar.

Our design for the interior of the bar elevates humble materials such as textured terracotta tiles and warm American clay with refined details, including bespoke, hand-finished bronze letter signage.
